Le Laboratoire de Physico Chimie des Matériaux Minéraux et leurs Applications (LPCMMA) a été créé en 2010 sous la direction du professeur Mokhtar FERID, puis dirigé par Pr Ezzeddine Srasra (2011-2014) et renouvelé en 2016 sous la direction du professeur Karima HORCHANI-NAIFER à la suite de l’évaluation du CNEAR.

Professeur Karima HORCHANI-NAIFER a exercé ses fonctions comme directrice du laboratoire LPCMMA depuis juillet 2016.

Les activités de recherche du laboratoire s'engagent à promouvoir l'innovation et la durabilité dans le domaine des matériaux avancés et des technologies de pointe.

Ces activités s'articulent autour de plusieurs axes, notamment la création de nouveaux matériaux multifonctionnels en exploitant les ressources naturelles, leur application pratique dans divers secteurs technologiques, tels que l'éclairage économique, les luminophores, les conducteurs ioniques, les capteurs et les membranes, la contribution à l'économie circulaire en valorisant les ressources telles que le phosphate naturel tunisien et ses dérivés et l’extraction des terres rares ainsi que la synthèse et la caractérisation de nouveaux matériaux à base de terres rares dans le but de les utiliser dans des applications technologiques. Ainsi, les activités de recherche seront réparties dans deux projets :

Projet 1 : Conception et valorisation des matériaux pour des technologies Avancées

Le projet comporte quatre sous-projets :

  1. Matériaux luminescents pour des technologies de pointe (éclairage, photothermométrie, scintillateurs, textiles intelligents, capteurs).
  2. Potentiel des gisements phosphatés tunisiens en terres rares : exploration des teneurs et essais d'extraction.
  3. Procédés de traitement et de valorisation : Développement et conception de nouveaux procédés hybrides innovants à base de matériaux avancés.
  4. Amélioration du rendement des cellules photovoltaiques par ingénierie optique.

Projet 2 : Matériaux et nanomatériaux à base de terres rares pour des applications optiques et énergétiques

Ce projet est subdivisé en 2 thèmes :

1- Matériaux luminescents pour des applications optiques :

Les matériaux luminescents à base d’ions terres rares (Ln3+) sont au cœur de nombreux sujets de recherche. Présents dans l’industrie, ces composés sont particulièrement appréciés pour leur interaction avec la lumière et sont utilisés dans des applications de technologie de pointe, compte tenu des nombreuses transitions électroniques observées dans les domaines du visible et du proche infrarouge. Ces matériaux peuvent être utilisés dans la fabrication des équipements lumineux tels que les diodes luminescentes, les lampes à économie d’énergie, ainsi que dans les écrans d’ordinateurs, les téléviseurs, les filtres et les amplificateurs optiques, ou encore dans les lasers. Ces matériaux sont également très prisés pour des applications biomédicales ; traceurs luminescents, imagerie médicale.

2- Matériaux vitreux à base des terres rares pour la conversion de l'énergie.

Ce thème porte sur la synthèse et la caractérisation de nouveaux matériaux vitreux à base de terres rares, pour des applications technologiques dans les domaines de l’optique et de l’énergie.
